Monday Update

On Friday I headed over to Monticello, just like I said I would. So glad I did as I found a big mess there. That usually means that stuff sold which is always a good thing. In fact, several things were gone including stuff that had been there quite awhile so I was doing a little happy dance right there in my booth.

I did bring a few new (old) things to restock my booth. Here's just some of the stuff I brought in.

Wallpaper rolls

Vintage folding cottage style chair with needlepoint seat.

Cute cottage style light fixture

Vintage button packs

Sweet chippy metal shelf

and finally, a country blue book shelf

Didn't do a lot on Sat/Sun. Some laundry, read another book, etc. Today (Monday) was the kids first day back to school, so I thought I would celebrate by going to a few nearby thrift stores. Here's what I found.

Cute vintage solid wood bed side table, adorable pink vintage baby book, old letter organizer, green tackle box, lamp shade and the most adorable ladies shoes bookends. Here's a close up. They are a little dirty and at first I passed them up, but went back and got them. They are so sweet and I've never seen anything like them.

A good friend, who shall remain nameless, invited Isabel and I over to shop in her garage on Friday. We were so tickled to be invited to this "private sale." We both found several things including these:

Three pieces of art made with vintage ephemera, a piece of vintage lace, a cast iron key, little kitty, silver card case and fuzzy chenille bees. But, my favorite find has to be this lovely hand painted tray.

That's it for me for now. I have projects galore swimming around in my head and I really need to get focused and get something done. I did make a trip to Home Depot to buy sand paper, paint and some rollers. Now all I need are a few days of nice spring weather and I can get busy. Happy Monday y'all!

A Little Road Trip

As I mentioned on my last post, we were going to take a little road trip last weekend. Long story short, what was going to be a road trip to Boise to see my brother and sister in-law, turned out to be a trip to the Oregon Coast.
If you have been reading my blog awhile, you know that I love the beach. The weather at the coast was quite rainy, but we were able to get out, stroll on the beach, go shopping, hiking, during a few breaks in the weather. The best part was just getting to spend time with my family. Family bonding, if you will.

We stayed two days in a little cottage in Waldport. Very funky and vintage, with a wood burning fireplace of which we took full advantage. I even had time to read a whole book. One of my favorite authors, Adrianna Tigianni just put out a new novel called "Very Valentine." Some of you may remember The Big Stone Gap series. I loved it. Anyway, it was a wonderful read.

Unfortunately,I didn't take any pictures during our trip. Camera battery died/too lazy. But, thanks to the internet, here a few shots for your viewing pleasure.

Cape Cod Cottages, Walport, Oregon

Path from cottage to beach, imagine a clowdy gray sky and a lot of wet. I think I like this image better.

My family was nice enough to indulge me by stopping at several antique stores/malls we happened to find. Unfortunately the getting wasn't great. I only managed to find a few items. Actually, it was a blessing as once again, I'm extremely low on funds. Here's the loot.

lampshade frame, rhinestone bracelet, lace and pair of rhinestone earrings
My hubby did get one sneak attack picture before my battery died. This is my darling daughter and in the background, just above the hood on her jacket, you can just barely catch a glimpse of my adorable son. This picture was taken on our hike around Cape Perpetua.

I need to get over to Monticello soon to clean up my space. The good news is that I have sold a few items that had been there awhile. Now I have room to bring in more stuff. Hopefully if I get my act together I can head over tomorrow with a few things. Maybe hit a few sales/thrift stores along the way? The weather is suppose to be improving a bit. I hope so.

Thanks to all of you who left comments on my last post about my collections. It's fun to know so many of you share many of the same collections as me. I also want to note that Mitzi is right. I did neglect to mention my most favorite collection of all. My wonderfully fabulous friends and family. All the rhinestone brooches in the world could not replace how much they mean to me. I hope you all have truly amazing weekend.

Another New Collection?

I've heard it said that three of something makes a collection. Well, recently I picked up a cute butter pat at the Portland Expo and wrote right here on my blog that it may be the start of a new collection for me. As if I needed to start a new collection.

To say that I have a lot of collections would be an understatement. Here are just some of the things I collect. Please keep in mind that for many of these items, you are in no way seeing the whole picture (I mean collection), but just a sampling.

Vintage wedding cake toppers

Tole trays with pink roses. (this is just a teeny, tiny sampling of my whole tole tray collection)

Also shown here are some pottery baskets with roses and rose posies.

Pill boxes, most with roses

Rose paintings, in all shapes and sizes

Rhinestone pins and hand painted rose pins

Barkcloth with roses

Vintage boxes, most with roses

Antique lace (seen in the clear boxes)
Vintage tricket boxes, again, with hand painted roses
Porcelain roses pins

Vintage Chenille Bedspreads

Antique/Vintage Mirrors and Frames

Rhinestone Buttons

Vintage Clip or Screw back Earrings

Vintage Silver Watches

Vintage Hats

Bird Cages

Vintage Pottery (Mostly pink and cream)

Rhinestone Buckles (all shapes)

Vintage Florist Baskets

Other collections, not pictured, include vintage pillowcases, pairs and singles, rose patterned, or pink, vintage millinery, crocheted hangers, ticking fabric, vintage landscape prints or paintings, (no longer collecting, but still have lots), vintage ephemera with roses, babies or little antique girls, skeleton keys, cream or white buttons, and I know there's more, but you get the idea. I have a lot of collections. Really, I have too much stuff. I need to pair down and only keep what I really, truly love. I really am working on it. Really!

BTW, look what I found in one of my kitchen cabinets.

Three butter pats. Looks like I already had a collection and didn't even know it.

If you had any doubt as to why I call my blog "A Thing for Roses," this post should clear that right up.

We will be taking a little road trip this weekend so I will be taking a short break from my blog. I'll be back soon with hopefully some fun new/old finds from my trip. Happy Spring! (tomorrow)

Added note: Please visit Isabel's blog for her 100th post giveaway and to learn a little more about her.

My Morning at Monticello

Saturday, took my girl to get her hair done and then we went and saw this.

All I can say...Awesome! If you ever get the chance to see it, go! It is so worth it.

Sunday was pretty lazy, Monday too. I did spend a little time getting stuff ready to take to Monticello today. Unlike most days I go to Monticello, I didn't stop at one thrift store along the way. I decided that since I'm running kind of low on funds and I have a trip coming up this weekend, that I wouldn't spend any money. Just go, drop off my stuff and come home. Simple, right? Not so much. I did end up finding a few things at Monticello that I just had to bring home.

But first, let me show some new (old) stuff I took to put in my booth.

Cute couple

Stack of vintage children's books.

Cute embroidered top and skirt.

Funky vintage sewing basket

Basket full of vintage aprons.

Vintage ironing thingy.

Pair of cute rose satin hangers.

Extra big floral drapery panel.

Mini dolly bed with vintage wallpaper.

Little pink doll cabinet.

Shabby Chic pink sheers with ruffles.

Snuggly pink cotton coverlet.

*Sorry a lot of my pictures are so dark. It has been a pretty gray day here today.

While at Monticello, I had the good fortune to see Pam of One Gal's Trash blog fame. She is such a sweetie. She was there specifically to leave a little gifty for me and I just happened to be there when she dropped by. I told her it was meant to be. We had a really nice chat and she gave me this adorable box of pink roses stationery. Wasn't that just the nicest thing ever?

Okay, now for stuff that I couldn't live without. Adorable chippy mirror frame with hand painted pink rose that I got out of my buddy, Lynn's booth and two adorable crocheted hangers that I bought from "The Girlfriends." Their booth is right next to mine and I always have so much trouble resisting all of their yummy delicious finds.I also couldn't leave without buying this adorable architechtural piece. I'm going to put it up over the window in my dining area. It is so sweet and chippy.

Hope you are all having a great Tuesday! Hopefully I can get my rear in gear and work on some projects to show you soon.
